Dear Parents, Community and Staff of the Oakville School District:
The Oakville School District wants to thank all of our community members for supporting the passage of our levy. Our students and staff are working very hard instilling pride in our school district. We have made several positive changes since the beginning of the school year. One of the most significant changes has been hiring Mr. Jeff Hunt as our Principal. We are able to hire this position because of our increasing enrollment. Other exciting news includes:
*State Basketball: Our Boys Basketball Team is going to State in Yakima. Mr. Hunt, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Reinitz, Mr. Riippa, and Ms. Hoxie will be attending and representing the district. Ms. Annie Bouffiou will be transporting our students. Tracy Bray and Steve Reinitz have been chosen League Girls and Boys “Coaches of the Year”. Tucker Reinitz was chosen “Most Valuable Player” and “1st Team All League”. Rhyse Pettit and Rikki Sutterlict were chosen “2nd Team All League”. Bryan Witt and Kody Herron were chosen “Honorable Mention”.
*School Improvement: The Oakville School District is in the school improvement process. We are addressing this issue by using our Title 1 and LAP grant funds to hire one full time and one part-time teacher. These individuals will assist students needing extra support in math and reading. We are also able to hire a para-educator to assist the kindergarten teacher with reading groups. Mr. Hunt recommended Ms. Corbus for the full time position. Ms. Caren Merrifield has been recommended as the para-educator. Interviews for the part-time position will be conducted shortly.
*Third Grade Position: Ms. Corbus has been recommended for the Title 1 and LAP Coordinator. This position will begin on March 1st. Mr. Kyle Lemay, a 3rd grade long term substitute, has been recommended for hire through June of 2010. His first day is Tuesday, February 16th. This will give Ms. Corbus and Mr. Lemay two weeks together in the classroom to transition. Ms. Corbus will be sending notices home and calling each of her parents to let them know about the changes. Although her classroom will be turned over to Mr. Lemay on March 1st, the classroom setting will stay the same. This will make it a little easier for the students. Ms. Corbus will continue to work closely with Mr. Lemay.
*On-Line Courses: Grades 9-12 on line courses have been added to our curriculum. Students are already experiencing successes.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments and/or concerns.
Sincerely,
Kathy Lorton, Superintendent
