Board Meeting Minutes

December 21, 2009

 

 

Call to Order:  Meeting called to order at 5:36 p.m.

Pledge of Allegiance

Establish Quorum/Acceptance of Agenda:  Members present were Steve Mittge, Judith Palmer and Laura Bale.

Election of Officers:   Moved by Laura Bale to table the election of officers until a future meeting where all members are present.  Seconded by Judith Palmer.  Passed unanimously.

Special Recognition:  Kathy Lorton wanted to recognize Don Chromy for again presenting a wonderful winter program with our students for parents, staff and community members.  Thank you so much.

Correspondence:  LeeRae Ball presented information for a phone system upgrade along with a price quote.

Community Comments:  Judith Palmer passed out a letter to the board from Dave Palmer concerning the turn over of the district web services.  Penny Reinitz wanted to comment on what a difference it has made by having Jeff Hunt, our new interim principal, at our school.  He is a real presence in the hallways and classrooms and that has a great impact on our students.

 

Minutes:  Judith Palmer moved to accept the minutes from November 30 as presented.  Seconded by Laura Bale.  Passed unanimously.

 

Reports:

            a.  Special:  None

b.  Business:  Sandy Tuengel reported she has been working on W2 preparations this month along with regular payroll.  LeeRae Ball reported more on the application process for e-rate and when we will have a decision.  Canfield and Associates has done an insurance walk through of our buildings.  She will report to the board on the results.  They did comment that our shop area has been improved nicely since last year.  However, there is a concern about the chemical storage in our science lab.  LeeRae asked permission from the board to do a mid-month account payable run in January due to the early board meeting and holidays.

c.  Maintenance:  Kathy Lorton covered some of the small maintenance items our staff will be working on over winter break.

            d.  Board Committees:  None

e.  Administrative:   Kathy Lorton handed out copies of the Fund Balance analysis for Oakville School District and Governor Gregoire’s budget for 2010, showing Oakville School District loosing approximately $311,775 next year.  She then introduced our new Principal Jeff Hunt.  Jeff reviewed a little of his background with the board.  He talked about raising expectations for the students and teaching staff.  There will be a trainer from ESD113 coming in to work with staff in January.  He has also planned some incentive and pride programs for the MS staff and students.

 

Consent Agenda:    Laura Bale moved to accept the consent agenda with the inclusion of Casey Doyle, Assistant High School Girls Basketball Coach, and the exclusion of the Levy Resolution which will be moved to new business.  Seconded by Judith Palmer.  Passed unanimously.

 

Old Business:

a.   Judith Palmer moved to accept the levy resolution #01-09-01 for the two year collection amount beginning 2011 for the amount of $306,400.00.  Seconded by Laura Bale.  Passed unanimously.

 

 

 

 

New Business:

a.   Policy 6100 Indian Education (review):   The board reviewed and discussed policy and procedures 6100.  Discussion was held.  It was moved by Laura Bale to accept the policy and procedure review as presented.  Seconded by Judith Palmer.  Passed unanimously.
