Mission Statement:

The mission of the Oakville Educational Community is to ensure learning experiences that meet the needs of all students in a safe, civil, and caring environment.  Oakville is committed to molding students into respectful, productive, and successful members of a diverse and changing society.  Each member of the educational community will encourage all students to reach their full potential through high expectations and accountability while promoting a sense of pride and ownership in their school.

2010-2011 Oakville School District Goals:

School Board Responsibilities:

The Oakville School Board is composed of citizens elected by voters for four-year terms. The Board’s legal responsibilities include:

School board meetings are held the last Monday of each month at 5:30 P.M. in the school library. Citizens’ formal presentations to the Board are welcome; requests should be given to Kathy Lorton.  In addition to the board meetings, Title 1 and Indian Education Parent Meetings will be held at 5:00 P.M., prior to each board meeting.

Constructive criticism can be helpful to the district. At the same time, the Board has confidence in its staff and programs and shall act to protect them from unwarranted criticism or disruptive interference. Complaints received by the Board or a board member shall be referred to the superintendent for investigation.

Most complaints can be resolved by informal discussions between the citizen and the staff member. Should the matter not be resolved, the principal shall attempt to resolve the issue through a conference with the citizen and the staff member.

  1. If the problem is not satisfactorily resolved at the building level, the citizen should file a written complaint with the superintendent which describes the problem, and a suggested solution. The superintendent will send copies to the staff member.
  2. The staff member shall respond to the superintendent in writing or in person.
  3. The superintendent shall then attempt to resolve the matter through a conference with the citizen and the staff member.
  4. If the matter is still not resolved, the superintendent shall present the issue to the Board. If the complaint is against a staff member, it shall be handled in executive session in the presence of the staff member. The board shall attempt to make a final resolution of the matter. Any formal actions by the Board must take place at an open meeting. If such action may adversely affect the contract status of the staff member, the board shall give written notice to the staff member of his/her rights to a hearing.
